Hastings Pier Theatre hosted yet another enthralling evening of finely tuned fisticuffs with the lively commentary of the ever-dapper Edward George Rose, alongside wrestling luminary Perry Hagger. As our duo set the scene, spectators braced for the high-stakes drama of the Great Britain & Ireland Amateur Challenge and highlights of thethe debut of the formidable Meritites, famously hailed as “Mother of Two Kings.”
First, the eliminator match, featuring a clash between Prague's towering Giant Barak and Oliver "The Croc Killer" Gladstone, had all the pomp and circumstance one could expect. Rose and Hagger added just the right amount of zest, with Rose offering keen observations on technique while Hagger provided his signature, slightly bemused insights.
The event’s special attraction, the Beat the Clock Knockdown Match, brought together Tiger Kid and William Miller Harris in a head-to-head that tested both athleticism and wits. The two wrestlers grappled fiercely, each trying to best the other within the ticking countdown. With each twist and turn, Rose and Hagger kept the crowd on edge, poised between awe and laughter at the drama unfolding before them.
In all, a most magnificent evening, with a grande finale Quadrangular match featuring four talented athletes. The action brimming with skill, spectacle, and the genteel charm of “gentlemanly” grappling—served, of course, with just a hint of unrestrained British enthusiasm.
