[Les Nevis is sitting at the kitchen table in a modest house in Newcastle. His Mum, Giant Nevis' daughter, is at the stove making tea. A framed photo of Giant Nevis in his prime hangs on the wall.]
Les Nevis: Mam, I’m tellin’ ya, this is my moment. I’ve been waitin’ for this chance me whole life. The GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND AMATEUR CHALLENGE. Paul "Pinfall" Peters may be a big name, but I’m ready. I can feel it in me bones.
Mum: I’ve no doubt you are, son. You’ve got that fire, just like your grandad. But this is different, Les. Pro rules, not like those amateur bouts you’ve been smashin’ through. This’ll be rougher, faster. You ready for that?
Les: I have to be ready, Mam. This is more than just another fight. If I win this, I go pro. I’ve been training since I could walk—Grandad always said I had it in me blood. Now I’ve got a chance to show it. Not just for me, but for him... for all he did for British wrestling.
Mum: He’d be proud of ya. I know he would. But pride only gets you so far. You’re walkin’ into a different world. Paul Peters doesn’t mess about. They don’t call him “Pinfall” for nothin’. He’s ruthless, and he’ll know this is your first pro match. He’ll be lookin’ to send a message.
Les: I know. That’s what I’m countin’ on. He’ll underestimate me. Thinks I’m just some kid livin’ off Grandad’s name. But I’ve learned from the best. I know how to handle meself, Mam. And I’ve got more heart than he’ll ever have.
Mum: Heart’s good, son. But you’ve gotta be smart, too. Remember what your grandad used to say? "It’s not about the size of the man, it’s about the size of his fight." But don’t let that fight blind ya. Keep your head in the game. Peters’ll be tryin’ to throw you off balance from the first bell.
Les: I will. Trust me, Mam, I’ve got this. I’m gonna win that match, and then I’ll be a pro. Not just to follow in Grandad’s footsteps, but to make me own path. To prove I’m more than just the Nevis name.
Mum: Well, Les, whatever happens, we’re behind you. Just promise me one thing—stay true to yourself. Win or lose, you’re fightin’ for you.
Les: I promise. I’ll make you proud. Just like Grandad.
